Dog shows

Sketcher was shown in conformation for the first time last weekend, to help make the major that finished his mom's Ch.  He enjoyed it quite a bit, me not so much!

Fortunately, he won't be shown again for several months, long enough for me to get more training into him, and for him to mature a little mentally ... <G>

Land and water amok time

We went out to Boulder City NV to do three obedience trials, so Sketch got to run amok at Lake Mead and in the desert.  He approves ... ;-)

First match

Now that he is in one piece again, we did a match to get ready for the Turkey circuit.  I was really happy with how well he did considering we really don't do that much work on this stuff - his biggest issue was wanting to grab the leash while moving (wonder why? <G>)

But we worked on it and by the end he would gait without the leash pretty much the whole time.  Here is a crappy screen grab from the video.

Broken puppy

Sketch fractured a toe on his left front foot at Prado on Oct 12, in the "safe" field no less.  It's just a hairline fracture, but still requires a big bandage and crate rest for several weeks.  Which really hasn't been going well - first he took the vet wrap off the outside of the bandage, then he worked his way down on the bandage itself until he finally got the whole thing off last night.  And he squeaks a lot in the crate.  I think we will live thru this, but it won't be easy!  ;-)

Puppy in flowers

On the way home from the specialty, I think this was sort of near Flagstaff.

More specialty

Sketcher got to do docking diving and really enjoyed it!  He got better with each go and his personal best was (I think) seven or eight feet.

CCRCA specialty

Sketcher is having a great time at the specialty.  The first event was the WC/X/Q test where he got to fetch his first duck, from land.

He liked it so much he tried to take it into his crate!  Fortunately, he isn't coordinated enough yet to jump in carrying a duck.

He also got to do some water retrieves and almost got the first WC water mark as set up dog.  Which I was happy with since it was his first bird in the water and first mark that long.

Tomorrow is the Upland test so I'm sure we'll get to have more fun there!

Four months old!

Time is really flying, but on the other hand it's hard to believe he is only four months old as he is so big for my line!  ;-)

On the road!

We have been at an obedience trial somewhere every weekend recently, and for the near future, so Sketcher has been getting a lot of travel experience.  Just recently, he's decided that going into his crate in the van isn't all it's cracked up to be, which means I need to focus more on getting him play time.  Last weekend we were doing conformation as well with Teaz, so we couldn't get dirty but this weekend we are off to Great Falls for "only" obedience, so I plan to take time to let them just run and have a good time on the way up.  Plus we will be camped on the grounds and there is plenty of room there to run amok - here is a pic from a previous trip.  This was before the trailer, and the van.  I was working on Dodger's OTCh so this must have been 2010.

Dodger in front, my third OTCh and Proxy (Sketch's grandmother), my fourth OTCh.  Teaz will be number five and Sketch will be either number six or seven, depending on what Rapid can accomplish and when.  That's the plan anyway ;-)  for now, he is just a happy puppy!

Three months old!

One of these days I'm going to learn to hold the head parallel to the camera (or judge).  Sigh.  You'd think after all the dogs I've shown, I'd know how to do this.

Fun at Iris's house

Sketcher has been getting a lot of swimming practice in the pool and can now turn in the water without forgetting to keep kicking his back legs.  He's also pretty good about finding the steps to get out.  Some of his entries have been less than spectacular ...

But others aren't too bad.

No matter the entry, swimming in the pool is fun!

Travels

We traveled to Reno for a match and three trials to see if Teaz could get a UD leg.  She did Q at the match, but missed one exercise each day afterwards.  Sigh.  Sketcher had many opportunities to swim and run amok, as well as experiencing an indoor trial.  He had lots of fun!

He also inherited the trait of walking other dogs, as he is doing here to his mom.  Below he has his and his mom's leash in his mouth at the same time!  All walks must include a leash in his mouth.

The next week will be spent at Iris' house, and then Leslie's!

Sketcher and his bird

Since we won't go to Prado until he is at least 12 weeks, we've been doing a little field work - very little! - in the yard.  Here is a shot I took of him retrieving his teal that was too dark, but Photoshop not only lightened it up, now it sort of looks arty!  ;-)

More pics!

Wanda Marrison got a rhino plush toy for each of the pups and they are soooo cute!  So, this
will be the only time that Sketcher will get to touch it since it's too cute to get torn up by a puppy.

Decision made!

So, even tho he isn't the first pick show pup or first pick field pup, the pup that made the most sense for me is ....

drumroll!

Dark Blue!

I hope he grows a neck and he could use a better tail set, but overall this puppy is my best fit.

Photos of his brothers will be deleted from the blog since this is all about Sketcher, and his brothers will have their own slaves to make them famous.  ;-)

Four weeks old

These pictures don't really mean much in regards to how he will look when he is an adult, but I wanted to get monthly pictures of my puppy so ...

Three outs!

The pups have been climbing out of the box ...

First out was Pinstripe, a male, at 12 days of age.

Two days later, Pink Polka Dot girl.

Three days after that, Sketcher!

Boys

Since this is to be a blog about my puppy, here are pictures of the contenders!
